A quality hand hewn beam is pinnacle reclaimed timbers. Before saws were big and powerful enough to cut large timbers they were laboriously cut by hand. The texture and cut marks created by the saw provide a timeless aesthetic that harkens back to a time when the human relationship with nature was more hands-on.

Due to the mortise-and-tenon construction, issues like mortise holes are part and parcel of reclaimed hand hewn beams. It’s important to note that a fine line exists where numerous mortise holes can dampen the aesthetic.
