Because cedar shakes are traditionally hand split, the pieces are of slightly varying and irregular sizes, giving it its charming and classic look. The style is so widely admired, that cedar shakes can be found throughout most of the country on everything from modest to grand suburban and country homes. Without treatment the browns and reds of cedar will weather to a silvery grey over time, often characterized as a beach home look. Incidentally, cedar shake is used so often for ocean front buildings because of its durability. It is naturally conditioned to withstand, high winds, salty air, and heavy rains.

Our western red cedar shakes are of the highest grade and quality.  Options to consider when ordering are size, sanded or rough face, and to prefinish or not. Having your shakes professionally prefinished makes the installation job easier and faster. On-site hand-finishing is time-consuming and often inexact.
